Year 2 – Kirkley Hall Zoo Trip

A post in our latest news section.

Today, Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful trip to Northumberland College Zoo at Kirkley Hall. Our guide, Tracey, explained all about the different animals that were at the zoo, including limas, wallabies, meerkats, snakes and a variety of insects and reptiles.

The children were really excited (and brave!) to be able to hold or touch some of these creatures. They were very interested and asked lots of questions.

At lunchtime, Craig the white peacock came to visit for some tasty snacks and we got to meet Ruby and Oscar, the macaws.

The rabbits and guinea pigs were really sweet. We loved the long-haired ‘Lionhead’ rabbits and the huge ‘Giant Rabbit’.

Feeding the limas and meerkats was a highlight of the day and I was impresssed by the children’s knowledge of various types of animals, their camouflage and their special features.

A great day was had by all – and it didn’t rain!
